the bush song wasn't exactly what i expected. i'd like to talk to you about your equipment. i'm looking to buy a digital audio recorder to tape interviews. I'd also like to be able to tape live shows. i thought you might have an idea of what kind of machine i need. i don't have a clue what i even want (a minidisc recorder or some fancier digital recorder). do you have any advice?

man, I don't know that I could be of much help here. I've got a digital Fostex pseudo 8-track and a Shure SM-48 mic, I think. It doesn't sound like you need a multitrack recorder for these applications. You probably want a good mic depending on how serious you are about taping shows. You probably want an omnidirectional one, which is what most recording musicians DONT want. So I don't really know much about those. Ornitholoco likes bootlegs and the hippie bands that make them, maybe he knows of a good internet resource on the topic? I know some of those people are crazy about that shit. Also, P-funk Allen's dad, strangely enough, knows quite a bit about sound engineering. Maybe he'd know?

What kind of interviews, btw?

i was in kingsport on saturday visiting with my 85 year old aunt and she was telling me story after story about growing up in coal mining towns in SW VA... i have to get some of it recorded while she is still here.

sheesh. I recall you wanting to write a story about my spunk towel in your senior thesis, J-comp. Hast thou grown prudish in your old age?

Appreciate the criticism. Bring it, I can take it. hell, at least you listened to this crap.

I'm over the My Bloody Valentine thing, at least for now. I'm now working on a punky sonic youthish thang(I need a bass) and a VERY non-bluegrass banjo-based song inspired by the Thumbsucker movie trailer.

Thanks for the offer on the loaner bass. I'm gonna see what I can do with some faux bass (try to make my guitar or synthesizer sound as bassy as I can with effects and so forth).

After xmas probably I'd like to get me one of them Squier basses probably and a small amp so I can get some rumble up in here.

DO I have all these songs on Cd?
ERin

No, I gave you a CD of the Walmart version. The last song is extremely vulgar. Keep in mind that it is a metaphor!

are you, amy, and erin going to dirk powell tonight (10/28 - 8pm) at the laurel? if you don't, your probably missing a treat. you didn't go to Clyde Davenport, did you?

woops... that you're missing a treat...

probly not tonite. Fern's having a halloween shindig at the house.

We saw Clyde a few months ago. iT was good, he was surprising funny in a grumpy old mountain man sort of way. I love the slow fiddle tunes he played. I recall he would play really oddly timed notes here and there and that the tunes were really haunting.

The last laurel show we saw was a young bluegrass band from Asheville called the Biscuit burners. iF you haven't heard of them, I would recommend them. THey are a solid group. Phenomenal young flatpicker and great dobro player, though he got a little too experimental at times. And then two chicks write songs and sing and have great voices.

have heard the biscuit burners, but not much. they're on sugarinthegourd.com from time to time. wish i could have made it to clyde davenport; i was real close to driving down for it. i miss the laurel theater something fierce. there are all kinds of oldtime jams around town up here and every friday night there's music in floyd, but the laurel is consistently so good. did you get to Joe Thompson and Bob Carlin? I wanted to get to that one too.

I can handle metaphors unlike some of your fellow bloggers!

I think we all need to step back, take a break, and simplify things. Next to a cup of strong coffee, masturbation and rock music are hands down the greatest things in the world. I cried when I heard the last song....then I masturbated. Thank you Enoch.

Who is this? Al?

I love this. Thanks so much.

About to get fired for listening to this...
-Doc Evil

Doc Evil Sez:
Mr. iii spooked me a little. If you're reading through these comments before listening: Stop. Go listen to them first. Or Amy will slap you silly. :)
I can't understand what the Hell this hick is talking about in Ivan's waltz. And who is Ivan? And that ain't no Blue Danube.
I loved the "perv" song.
Everybody wave to my neighbors at the NSA!

Doc Evil,

Just wait until my anti-establishment, communistic, atheistic, revolution-callin-for, down-with-the-Man, Bush-Cheney-Rummy-TurdBlossom-Condi-hatin, banjer-driven bluegrass record comes out. Then listen to that one on your Patriot Act-wiretapped-DHS/FBI/CIA/NSA monitored government computer!

Thanks fer lissnin.

Merry f'n xmas.
